Speaking English was a challenge for Ami growing up. Being in a Gujarati medium school, no one really gave importance to learning English, and she often found herself struggling to find people with whom she could practice this foreign language. It was only after graduation, that her first job gave her the opportunity to interact with her peers in English. But was it a missed opportunity?

“Initially, everyone used to make fun of me when I spoke and made mistakes. But I was fine with the ridicule because I was in it for the learning.” It took years of motivation for Ami to speak up knowing a pun or a snide remark could be coming her way. But watching English movies and reading English books gave her the confidence to launch into impromptu monologues in English whenever she wants. Ami left no stone unturned in learning the language, and her perseverance paid off!

As a Senior Analyst with the Sales & Ops team at Rayden, she can now speak English fluently and interacts candidly with everyone. Her curious nature ensures she constantly finds new ways of doing things and she admits it is because she can speak well that she has been able to communicate all her ideas with her team. Not only has she managed to learn and get fluent in the language, but she has also helped and consistently encouraged her friends to overcome their fear of learning it too!
